Basically my belief is this, if you have a low traffic site/sites or are a beginner then using reliable shared hosting is the better option as it is cheaper and easier to get to grips with and also if you find you do start to get tons of traffic you can always upgrade to a dedicated server. If you are experienced and have a large site getting high levels of traffic then a dedicated server is more likely your better option.
